Why an expansion now?
Akron Children’s has become the largest pediatric healthcare provider in northeast Ohio, with nearly 800,000 patient visits each year. As a result of our significant growth in patient volumes and services, we’ve outgrown our current facilities.
The Building on the Promise expansion project will transform Akron Children’s main campus, which hasn’t undergone a significant expansion in more than 20 years. Today, space is at a premium, with many clinical and patient care areas in need of major updates.
We’ve outgrown our operating rooms, ER and neonatal intensive care unit, and we have no additional space for new doctors.
Our expansion will allow Akron Children’s to continue providing our children with access to the very best care. It will provide an infrastructure that will continue to attract bright, talented medical staff, who are equipped with the latest technology.
